PERFECT DAYS - MOVIE REVIEW

PERFECT DAYS

Perfect days is a film directed by Wim Wenders starring Koji Yakusho , Aoi Yamada , Arisa Nakano , Tokio Emoto and Wim Wenders

STORY BRIEF

Perfect days is a story about a toilet cleaner named Hirayama who lives in Tokyo. He feels content in his life as a toilet clenaer , beside his daily routine he cherishes music on cassette tapes , reads book , observes people and clicks photographs.

PERSONAL VIEWS

Personally I liked the film a lot , saw this type of film after a long time. The beauty of Perfect Days lies in it's story which tells us the difference between being alone and being lonely. Throughout the film we can see the positivity reflected in Hirayama's character.

The color blue is seen to represent the state of being alone or lonely cause we can see Hiryama contsatly in his blue uniform, his surroundings focus on hues of blue and in the scene where he is in the park when he sees a girl who is sad maybe lonely , she is is also wearing a blue dress. This clearly shows director's approach towards the color blue

I feel the film is full of hope and tells us how a person can stay happy by himself by embracing small moments in life , like in a scene where Hirayama while having lunch sees a small plant going alongside a huge tree and and takes that plant with him. Maybe this was because he liked plants but we can clearly see what the film is trying to portray through this small things.

Thing which I liked about the film is how the the director use color science , for example there are 2 secnes where 2 people who are exaclty opposite to the character of Hiroyama by either age , gender or expereince are showcased wearing yellow color which is a complementary color of blue. Both of the characters who came to Hiroyama were in some kind of trouble or needed him a way.

We can see there were scenes when either Hiroyama was in his dreams or lost in thoughts they are showcased through multiple exposure trying to give us that feeling about dreams and random thoughts that compile a day. Unique thing about this film is like in other films the sense of being alone or loneliness is often shown using extreme long shots , but in this film we can nowhere see usage of extreme long shot.

Lastly Hiryama is also a man with feelings, no matter how much he tried to keep his pain away through engaging himself in his routine, but we can see tears roll down his eyes when his sister takes his niece away, when he hugs her sister trying to keep up with a relation and the last scene where we can cleary see Hiryama's watery eyes trying to hide it with a smile.

Overall I would say the film is a must watch.
